June 20th 2012

My pepper plant is looking really good! It has 3 little peppers growing on it now :)
My squash plant is dying... all of them are. They have some weird plant disease apparently is what it says online. They came like that, and the disease wont spread to my other plants thankfully.
My lettuce is growing a lot bigger. They look a lot healthier now that im not getting their leaves wet when watering them.
My cherry tomatoes are growing! They wernt there when I checked last week!
My chard is HUGE compared to last week. There are a lot of stalks and they are super tall.
Here's an updated picture of my garden :)

June 10th 2012
Today my garden is looking a lot better. I noticed I have my first tomato growing! I also have a couple buds and flowers on my red pepper plant, strawberries, and jalepenos. The strawberries are still halfway dead though..

June 3rd 2012
My Garden looks somewhat dead this week... I don't have my camera because i left it at my grandmas so I cant give a picture update. I overwatered most of it and got the leaves wet so they dried out from the sun. My mom and I planted the herb garden today though! We got chocolate mint, oregano, rosemary, thyme, and a couple others that I can't remember the name of.

Picking and Planting: May 27th 2012
My mom and I decided that we wanted to plant herbs in the 4x4 planter and vegetables in the 4x8. We went to the nursery to pick out the vegetables that we wanted. I picked out a tomato, a cherry tomato, jalapenos, red pepper, zucchini, romaine lettuce, kale, and chard. Once we went home, I had to look on the tags to see how far away each plant needed to be from each other. After drawing out where everything was going to go on a piece of paper, I took all of the plants and started sticking them in the ground. I moved the cherry tomato where the herbs are going to eventually go because there wasn't enough room for it in the 4x8. Everything ended up looking really good! :)

Pretty Flowers :)

Filling the Planters: May 20th 2012
Because planting the garden started to become a family thing rather than just my own, my mom suggested that we get the soil from the compost pile at the dump because it was reusing resources rather than just going and buying it in packages. The drive up there was pretty long, but the ride back was worse because we had to live with the smell. My entire family went, and when we got there it was just a huge pile of dirt. We had lots of empty trashcans and shovels and we shoveled soil into about 10 trashcans before breaking our backs trying to put them back in the car. Once we got home, we lined the bottom of the planters with chicken wire so no animals can dig under and ruin the plants. After that we dumped all the trashcans of soil into the planters and spread them out so they were even with a rake. Then we had to spray the soil with water so it could soak it up and become more healthy.

Building the Planter: May 12th 2012
At first I wasn't quite sure how to build the planters from my garden. My cousin Kelsey was visiting me from out of town and since she works at home depot I figured she could help me. She said that I could either buy a "Build Your Own Planter" set or buy wood and measure it all out myself. My dad said he would help me out if I built one myself. We went to Home Depot and got some wood and took it all home to measure and cut. Afterwards, we ended up with a 4x4 and a 4x8 planter.
